Part 2 of the FY2022 JICA Training program “Integrated Lake, River and Coastal Basin Management for Sustainable Use and Conservation of Water Resources” has been completed

Part 2 of the JICA training program “Integrated Lake, River and Coastal Basin Management for Sustainable Use and Conservation of Water Resources” conducted at ILEC (Kusatsu) from January 11 (Wed) to 30 (Mon), 2023 has been completed.

The training began with a presentation of the Draft Action Plan, and a wide range of knowledge was shared through lectures on Lake Biwa conservation and regulation, Lake Biwa fisheries, environmental education, and ecotourism. The participants also learned through practical training such as Lake Modeling exercises, expanded their perspective from Lake Biwa to the Yodogawa River Basin, and visited the Yodogawa River Office and other sites in addition to the Lake Biwa Museum, Kyoto University’s Research Center for Environmental Quality Management, an environmental business enterprise, and the Setagawa River Weir.

Although there was occasionally stuck in heavy snowfall due to the once-in-a-decade cold wave, the training was completed without incident.

The participants will share the knowledge they have acquired with relevant personnel and work toward implementing the action plans they have created upon returning to their home countries.
